| Windows 7 reviewed – What's new in the latest Windows release?
With Windows 7 being released this month, of course the big news in the world of computers is Microsoft's latest operating system. Windows 7 is intended to make up for the failings of Windows Vista, and it adds some excellent new features that will make computing even easier for everyone.
Some of the new features that we like include:
Pin – for the task at hand Have files or programs you use on a regular basis? The new pin feature allows you to drag your icon to the taskbar for quick one-click, access any time you want.
HomeGroup – sharing made easy One area where many users have struggled since home networking began is with sharing of files, printers and media. With Windows 7 you have the new HomeGroup feature. This tool will allow you to share media, printers and files between all of the computers in your home with just four clicks. Media made easy With features like Play To, and Internet TV, media usage on your PC just got simpler. By right clicking on any media file and then hitting the “Play To” button users are able to play their movies, music, and more, to any media enabled device on your home network.
Snap and Shake With new simple features like Aero snap and Aero shake, users are able to organize open windows quickly and easily. A quick drag of a window allows you to snap them into place, and a little shake of the mouse will minimize all other windows.
Windows Touch One feature that we really like is the new Windows Touch. This simple feature allows you to make use of touch screens with an operating system that was actually designed to support it. One touch to the screen (with a supported touch screen monitor) and you can resize photos, organize files and more.
Really we're just beginning to touch the surface of the new features available with Windows 7. For those who haven't considered upgrading yet, you should take a moment to check out the Windows site and learn more about what's new in Microsoft's latest operating system. Internet TV, Really?
With the new feature of Internet TV in Windows 7, the question comes up what exactly is Internet TV?
The term itself brings up pictures of surfing the web to find your favourite programs. Of course in Windows 7 the TV feature is really just a tool to allow you to pull popular media from the web, but the picture we discussed may not be that far from the truth in years to come.
People like Leonard Tsai (senior consumer systems engineer at Hewlett-Packard), or Paul Fellows (chief technology officer for England's Amino Technologies) suggest that Internet TV is on its way. In their vision, it won't just be your PC that's connected to the Internet; it will be that 46” flat screen in your living room as well.
Your television signal will be streamed through the web, and features like digital video recording and TV on demand will become the norm instead of just a dream. As technology moves forward and traditional media begins to fall behind, it will be interesting to see how this dream develops into a reality.
So is Internet TV a reality? No, not today. But, don't discount the idea just yet. Look towards the future, and soon you’ll be connecting your flat screen to the web to get that latest high definition video.
